7.28.12 And then there was ONE. If you have been around youth track for a few years you know that many times the best and the fastest rarely if ever get the match up the spectators long to see. This was not the case today. The absolute top three fastest girls in the Nation were lined up for what promised to be the best youth girls finals in the last few years. It did not disappoint.
As my nerves began to mount the girls lined up and then the gun was off. By the time Kaylin hit the curve I knew there would be One and she clearly was the ONE going down the home stretch. Whitney foot speed was amazing as she decisively commanded the lead and clearly was on her way to a National and Junior Olympic Record. She did not disappoint. A BLAZING 23.41 was almost unbelievable except it was. I have watched her at the top of the Elite youth board for many years when she was a top of division athlete and we were hoping for her presence this year.
Lynna and Lauren would have to fight to the tape for the 2nd place spot. With a 23.79 finish Lynna Irby ,then 24.08 Lauren Williams finish off an epic show of determined speed and poise.
Over the past few days I have gotten to know these athletes through the eyes of Lauren and while defeat isn’t ever what an athlete comes to receive in the end Lauren and all the other top athletes have nothing but respect for each other which is a rare thing these days.
As a Mom I can only wish my child does her best and I have never been disappointed in that regard. Congratulations to all the Final Finishers….Thanks for an Amazing 200m final.
