With all of Region 15 ‘s Association qualifiers in place the stage is set for this weekends Region 15 Championship. Here is one of the 3 association in the region 15 group highlights below.Thanks to Youth1 for the update.
(Youth1) – The San Diego Imperial Association T&F Championships took place this past weekend and featured a bevy of talented athletes. Some of the performances that stood out were Jordan Brooks, whose 400 meter time of 52.85 was outstanding and Tajanique Bell, who had a great weekend as she won both the 400m and 800m races. Lastly, Hazel Groff turned some heads with her blazing time of 5:02 in her 1500m victory.
This event attracted athletes of all age groups. Here is a look at the results from the midget and youth divisions.
Midget Girls
In the 100m, San Diego Cheetah’s Deanna Nowling blew past the competition to win the race in 13.81. Meanwhile, Brianna Anders (Mercury San) earned 1st place in the 200m and 400m by posting times of 27.57 and 1:01.13, respectively. Iyanna Jones (Mercury San) used her athletic skills to win the 80m hurdles in 17.02.
Sierra Roberson (San Diego Cheetahs) was the superior runner in the distance races as she won the 800m in 2:31.90 and the 1500m in 5:09.86. Teammate Alysa Small completed the hat trick in distance events as she won the 3000m in 11:27.89.
Mercury San Diego Track Field ‘A’ won the 4x100m relay in a time of 55.56. They would also go on to win the 4x400m relay with a good time of 4:57.67. In the 4x800m relay, the San Diego Cheetahs ‘A’ was the dominant team as they blew past their competition to win the race in 10.21.31.
In field events, Mariana Frangos (Millennium) won the high jump with a vault of 1.08m. Mercury San’s Juanita Steward earned 1st place in the long jump with a leap of 4.49m. Angel Martinez (Change the Game) had a launch of 7.52m to win the shot put contest and her throw of 19.46m earned her 1st place in the discus throw. Savannah Jackson of TSD Panthers won the javelin with a throw of 27.81m.
Youth Girl
Amanda VanBuren of 619 Cvsd Fly blazed past the competition as she won both the 100m and 200m in 12.61 and 26.70 respectively. Tajanique Bell (Mercury) had a great weekend as she won the 400m in 57.45 and the 800m in 2:24.54. Erin Berg (Speed to Burn) ran and leapt her way to victory in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.88.
In the 1500m, Hazel Groff (San Diego) set a quick pace en route to her winning time of 5:02.38. Meanwhile, teammate Elizabeth Mang won the 3000m by finishing the race in 11:04.86. In the 3000m race walk, lone contestant Keiana Burnett (USA Rockets) won the race with a time of 20:34.17.
N Step Youth TC ‘A’ team won the 4x100m relay with a barn burning time of 52.41. In the 4x400m relay, Speed to Burn TC ‘A’ was no match for the competition as they posted a winning time of 4:23.42.
In field events, Sara Wagenveld won the high jump with a leap of 1.45m. She won the pole vault contest as she cleared 3.20m. Sara also showed her versatility by winning the javelin with a launch of 28.10m. N Step Youth’s Sydney Barnes won the long jump with a leap of 4.50m whereas Olivia Nash won the triple jump with a dash and leap of 9.95m. Mercury San’s Heaven Pryor had an awesome weekend as she won the shot put with a heave of 9.98m and her launch of 21.59m won her the discus contest.
Midget Boys
North County’s Samuel Dixon had a great weekend as he won the 100m and 200m with times of 12.83 and 28.06 respectively. In the 400m, Martell Irby (Mercury San) won the race with a time of 59.11. Luke Hofrichter (North County) won the 80m hurdles in 14.82.
Meanwhile, Willie Coleman of San Diego Cheetahs won the 800m with a time of 2:20.97. Teammate Ian Dickinson was the best performer in distance events as he posted winning times of 5:02.23 and 10:33.28 in the 1500m and 3000m.
North County Jaguars ‘A’ won the 4x100m relay with a time of 54.32. In the 4x400m relay, Mercury San Diego Track Field ‘A’ was the lone competitor posting a winning time of 4:27.38.
In field events, North County’s Connor Luck won the high jump with a vault of 1.25m. Meanwhile, Shawn Poma (Millennium) won the long jump with a leap of 4.86m and the shot put with a throw of 8.94m. Jalen Gross won the discus with a launch of 10.15m. Daisean Crawford of San Diego Ch won the javelin with an impressive toss of 40.95m.
Youth Boys
David Turney (North County) narrowly won the 100m in 12.26. Malcolm Anders of Mercury San won the 200m in 24.45 and the 400m in 51.77. Teammate D’Anthony Walcott leapt and dashed his way to victory in the 100m and 200m hurdles with times of 14.41 and 27.06 respectively.
Thomas Rintoul (San Diego Cheetahs) set a quick pace to win the 800m in 2:14.77. Millennium E’s Burak Tufekci won the 1500m in 4:34.19. Colin Jensen of San Diego So won the 3000m with a time of 9:51.16.
Mercury San Diego Track Field ‘A’ won all three relay races. In the 4x100m, they posted a quick time of 47.08. In the 4x400m, they were able to pull ahead to post a 1st place time of 3:45.34. They completed the hat trick in the 4x800m with a time of 9:27.62.
Devin Sanders (Millennium) won the long jump with a leap of 5.79m. Dezmon Patmon won the high jump with a vault of 1.60m. James Scott IV (N Step Youth) won the triple jump with a combination leap of 11.19m. Joshua Bass (Change The Game) earned 1st place in the shot put with a heave of 11.64m. Micah Agnes (Mercury San Diego) won the discus and javelin events with throws of 40.41m and 37.96m respectively.
