I read this article “25 manners every kid should know about by 9 years old today and got to thinking about manners of our youth track athletes at meets.I created my own top 10 manners and sportmanlike behaviors our youth track athletes need to display by 12 years old. See if you can add any in the comment section.
1. Never,Never curse at a track meet. Athletes, use your big girl and boy words to express yourself with friends not a shunted version of profanity no one around you wants to hear.
2. Always say yes sir or maam ,please and thank you to the clerk of the course then sit down quietly, softly speaking until your race or event is called.
3. Never boast about what you can or will do during an event. Let your performance speak volumes that your boasting will only detract from.
4. Always wish well before a race or field event, congratulate or say good job when it is over.Even shaking hands when able.
5. When you see familar parents while walking around the stadium stop and say hello (this always makes me so happy when kids say hi to me
6. Share your meal or drink with a friend when they don’t have something to eat or drink.
7. Offer your space under the tent when there are more to an athlete if he or she still has races to participate in and need the covering more than you.
8.Listen to your coach and follow directives there is a reason to his rationale even if you can’t understand it that moment.
9. Encourage and cheer on your team mates and fellow competitors on the side lines and before races it will make you and them feel great!
10. Thank your parents for taking you to the meet and supporting you now and again.
I realized I have a few more to add to the quick list so stay tuned for part two this week
More to follow …
Until Then

Hi Lorraine,
I love the emphasis you put here on sportsmanship and manners for the athletes. Those elements are such an important part of the growth and development of an athlete. Most of all well mannered athletes competing in the spirit of good sportsmanship make the meets a more fun and positive experience for everyone.
