2010 46th Annual Phoenix Invitational Results It’s a Wrap!

Lauren and Cousin Miah

First things first the results are up and here just click

I can’t believe it over, but it is, and the best part is that I slept in my own bed This early morning after a long 5-6 hour drive. The meet was packed with talent and truly one to remember for a lot of reasons. In the future I hope to be able to update more on the boys events like I have with the girls. I just haven’t figured out the “how to” of coverage for a youth meet this large.

Parents of boy athletes PLEASE PLEASE share your stories with me.I love watching them just need to have a little help IDing them LOL. Send  the stories  me at my e-mail found on the about page of this site.

Gosh, where do you start to comment on a meet that was so full of excitment in every race for some one and many races for most of the folks and parents in attendance.. Well I guess I’ll start from my own kids results this weekend.

The 200m Midget Girls were on  Fire.  Quiet Fire that is,  top two spots captured by Lauren 26.34 2nd place and  the gold went to Jeanette Paul 25.96. As a coach told me this weekend they are growing you can see their attiude for running excellence growing too.  I agree. Coach Henry was very happy with both girls performances and to place  one and two is an exciting moment for a team to watch. This was Lauren’s second fastest time just off last weeks 26.30.

The 100m was the nail bitter for me with two 2009 Bantam Girl Junior Olympians in the race it looked like it was time to establish officially the ’99 born California sprint rivalry.  And was it established. It it was a great race with Saravaugh King and Lauren Williams. Saravaugh beautifully stretched out the last few steps to  clearly pass Lauren for the Gold in an amazing early season 12.64 . Taking nothing away from Las Vegas’s Charlea Armstrong’s 12.86 bronze finish the 99′s are Hot.If you haven’t figured out 99 is the birth year of the Lower Midget Girls.

How did I feel about that  finish? Very proud of both girls. Winning is always fun, PR times are best. Lauren has been competing with Saravaugh for the past 3 years now and she always makes Lauren work for the win as evident in North Carolina where from my vantage Saravaugh was the winner, that is just how close it was.

Sunday’s race wasn’t that close but a great showing by all 9 athletes most PR-’ing as well. I heard people all over the stadium buzzing before the race saying this is the one to watch…they were right. It was a beautiful race with a clear winner and I couldn’t be prouder of Lauren for her great effort and although not winning, reaching her goal of sub 13 for the first time. Running consistant all weekend.  We couldn’t ask for more.

Now Lauren, she says she could, she would do better in the weeks to come. She is tougher on her self than we are on her in that respect. I just want her to enjoy the PR for the week or until practice on Wednesday : -)

Another nail biter was the Youth Girls 100m and 200m races with exciting finishes as well

It was the Ky WestBook show with a 100m sub 12 performance 11.99  and a close second for a Phoenix favorite Hannah Cunliffe @12.07 . Ky once again showed a great amount of power and strength as she won the 200m @25.11 Jaela Williams @26.02. There is lots more to talk about the meet and I will continue to share tomorrow.

Until then

Thanks for the Phoenix updates and info. I am really bummed we missed it this year. Congrats to Lauren on a PR and great races. Please tell her Brooke & I said so. Thanks. Lorraine, do you know what is going on wth the National Elite Youth Ranking this year? They are so far behind on posting results. I know of some results that were sent to them 2 weeks ago and they still don’t have them showing. Have you heard anything about what may be wrong over there?

  2. TomPier says:

    great post as usual!
