2010 Outdoor Season Begins In So Cal

Lauren William Rasheed Jalen Nailor So Cal’s newest midgets for 2010

Tomorrow is the first day of outdoor track in SO Cal  and like clock work,Lauren’s friends, my patients, family asking be randomly what ya doing on Saturday? Can Lauren……. Can you go with me to…… I have been off every weekend since August 8th just about 6 months no big requests to spend time with me. As soon as the season begins it seems like everyone I know wants to do something now..What  is that about?

Happily I let all of them know this weekend  we will be at track meet. That is the good news the bad news is the forecast is 70% rain YUK….I had enough rain at the JO meet In North Carolina.Well I guess being the first meet it will take the chill out of the air. So many  kids back for another exciting year. They will be a little taller a little faster and a little more determined.

In my book “Runners Take Your Mark” I mention to new parents to youth track and field the following advice:

  • Be prepared to stay all day
  • Prepare food and drinks so you won’t get hungry thus cranky
  • Plan for the climate hot or cold
  • Most of all bring a good ,positive attitude with you

This advice is really for all parents of youth track and field athletes. Gotta be out there all day might as well find the fun and enjoyment of the sport ,not just watching your kid. Every thing about this…..We pack ,plan, unload ice chest, put up tents prepare lunch and snacks drive sometime over 20-30 miles maybe more for what amounts to for a Midget sprinter that runs the 100m 200m and a relay all of about 1 minute and 45 seconds of viewing our child run. this is why you have to embrace the sport and all whom participate other wise it’s a VERY LONG DRAWN OUT DAY.

If you are a returning family what will you do different this season? What do yo want to do more of? What does your athlete want to do different, what new event does she want to try?

Write me a comment  or send and e-mail of what you do to prepare for the new season? What do you plan to change this season, What things do you do to enjoy the meets?

LET THE 2010 SEASON BEGIN!

Here’s wishing your athlete  fast beginnings and consistant finishes

    How was the flood?

I think I am having serious “track envy”. :) Our outdoor season doesn’t begin until April and we cannot even start practice because of this cold weather.
I hope Lauren does well and I can’t wait to hear her times
