2009 World Games….TrackMom Insights

This week has been a week of track excitement for Track and Field enthusiast. We’re all in  track heaven right now and it’s only Tuesday. If you are anything like me you enjoy your favorite events but, also really enjoy watching all the events because they are part of the sport we spend so much time watching and helping our own kids to participate into the best of their abilty.

My favorite moments thus far have also given me a few “Track Life Lessons” I plan on integrating into our preparation for Lauren in the coming seasons as well for my own mental preparation.  I am figuring out just where all of these obsevations belong in the Journey we call Youth Track and Field.

Some of these thoughts are obvious but deserve a highlight for a reminder.

  • Losing is part of a Champions  Life… No one wins all the time, you can be the Olympic Gold medalist  one year and then not be a top 3 finalist the next big showing. (Felix Sanchez,ChristineOhuruogu)
  • Sometimes Champions are so far ahead of there competion nothing is going to stop their momentum to the Gold Medal.(Usain Bolt)
  • Embracing the moment is most important…You may never have another chance.
  • Sometimes your youth coach can take you all the way to a World Championship  (Trinidad’s 17 year old Jehue Gordon had the run of  his life to  a national record of 48.26 sec.
  • Being the best all season just might not be good enough for that one season highlight race.(Carmelita Jeter)
  • Setting an American Record means not quite as much as it would have a few months before( Tyson Gay)
  • There is tremendous value in a silver medal even if the announcer doesn’t think so. Mom knows how special it is.(Tyson Gay)
  • It’s really okay to be very happy about your performance and express it ( Shelly -Ann Frazier 100m Champion)
  • Showing up and doing your best might just be enough to beat the best. (Chelsea Johnson  Pole Vault Silve medalist)
  • It’s always good to have a plan (Kerron Clemment 400mH Champion ,La Shinda Demus 400mh finalist running in the final this week)
  • A Championship foundation can be laid in youth track (5th place Steeple Chase, American Record holder Jenny Barringer)
  • Looking forward with enthusiasm, even when the crowds count you out ( Lauryn Williams100m 5th place finisher)
  • Not being at the big meet last time doesn’t mean you can count me out (Sanya Richards 2009 400m Champion)
  • 8th person to qualify in the top 8 IS A GOOD thing (Tiffany Ross-Williams 8th place final entry for the 400mh)
  • 4th is fine….(Damu Cherry) womens 100mh

Until Next Time
