We expect, rightfully so each and every week for our child to show up and do his/or her best. What are we doing as Mom’s to help provide the right environment for this to occur?. Here are “20 Easy Must Do’s” that can help you help your child have a productive and safe Track and Field season
The Track Mom’s Duties
20 Easy Must Do’s
- 1. Prepare your child physically. Fuel, hydrate and insure rest. Provide clean uniforms and training shoes.
- 2. Prepare your child emotionally.Let your child know how proud you are of his track pursuits and success big and small. Explain the type of meet and personal expectations and goals she may have.
- 3. Communicate your support for the athletes, the team and the coach. Cheer for the entire team, not just your child.
- 4. Offer encouragement and hugs when needed.
- 5. Attend the meets.
- 6. Don’t scream or belittle your child in public.
- 7. Explain and demonstrate good manners.
- 8. Display respect for the facility and host team by cleaning your area before leaving stadium.
- 9. Learn at least the basics of the sport.
- 10. Teach your child how a team works - what the coach does, what the players do, what the officials do, what is expected of all.
- 11. Get your child to the practices and the meet on time.Rushing is hard on everyone.Being on time shows respect for your child and the team. Being late means missed instructions and warm-ups.Missed warm-ups mean unnecessary injuries and lower performance.
- 12. If you have a dispute about a result or event, keep calm and make a formal complaint, calmly. Do not embarrass your child, the team or on-lookers by throwing a fit.
- 13. Explain what “good sportsmanship” means.Point out people showing good sportsmanship on and off the track.Welcome visiting teams and show hospitality. Demonstrate good sportsmanship yourself.
- 14. Prepare as much ahead of time as possible.
- 15. Be an ambassador for Track and Track Moms. Never forget…Your kids are watching.
- 16. Support other team members. Encourage them and their parents.
- 17. Express appreciation for hospitality offered.
- 18. Transport your child and others safely to and from events, with care and respect for others on the road.
- 19. Emphasize fun and fitness as a major benefits of competition.
- 20. Pace yourself, meets are long and very often extreme in temperature, hot and cold bring the right gear for comfort ,the right food hunger,( yours and often a few others)
This is a big bonus one I practice regularly… Encourge all of your childs talents and interest. Let them know Track is not everything and just as important as other activites they love. No matter which one is your favorite : - )
