Are You A Screamer?? Do You Watch Every Race? Do You Talk During A Race?

Sub-Bantam Divison 2006 6 1/2 years old

When Lauren started running as a  lower sub-bantam in  summer 2006 we participated in about 5 meets total that season 2 USATF the rest all-comers meets. She was just about 7 and I didn’t know a 16.5 100m from a 14.1 but I knew I was watching some excitement when she was in a race. I would scream at the top of my lungs and she said she heard me every time. Those early races were so full of expectation(still are) I never knew  where she would place (still don’t, cause I try to take every race on it’s own. Never group past results with a current race.) but I was always hopeful.

At the California State Meet we were brand new to the big meet and no one knew us or Lauren but as soon as she ran down the track everyone knew I was a parent of some kid based on my loud screaming. I was happy for her two silver medals and they were close races so I knew I would be watching many more races to come .We all enjoyed  our new found passion our Track Joy.

I don’t scream any more.Well…. I scream a little at a finals race but never like before.I just got tired of a hoarse voice every week after a meet and It helps my nerves if I don’t scream. I wil say “Go Lauren” but not my former crazy lady scream. She’s retired. : – )

I watch all the time.I just couldn’t miss it. I was sitting with a parent last week and they told me they couldn’t watch.I was shocked. She said she just got to nervous, just tell her the results. I meet another parent that  would walk the parking lot during a National final until the call came in with results.

How about talking? Do yo talk during races?? Many folks do because there are alot of them to watch at the youth level. Just in case you haven’t noticed many people like to focus on their team or child so please no talking to me while my kid is running : – ) I haven’t had to shooush any one yet.

You might not know where Lauren is going to place before a race, but I do. Relax Lorraine and enjoy the beauty of seeing your daughter run. She is NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. Number 1 in your heart and Number 1 on the track. Keep up the good work. You have a great site.

You are so funny!!!!! Yes you do still scream, and how I know because I hear you while I’m sitting in the “COUGAR SECTION”…… LOL you’re still my favorite family non family member. As for myself I film my kids while they’re running so I try my best to keep my mouth shuttttt, but that doesn’t always work. when my kids run I get nervous, for the simple fact that they might false start, they might fall, they might cramp up, so for that reason my heart beats faster just before they run. It’s really funny to see some of the parents who runs through the stands and sidelines as their kids run. All in all youth track & field is a joy to attend and be apart of every week. Oh yea you have shooush me many of times…lol

I was shaking my head agreeing as I read you say that you quit yelling like you used to because you got tired of the hourse voice…….I relate there! I too have mellowed it out. It may in part be that she is now running the longer races and to scream that entire time I would really be hourse! I laughed about the trying not to yell when videoing…..I try to hold it back now too after I watched one race I recorded and all you hear is my loud screams in the back ground the whole time! LOL! That made me see that hmmm, maybe I will reign that in, lol!
I have had to hold my finger up in a wait-a-minute pose to someone who tried to talk to me during one of her races, I hope they understood.
Our team bought pom-poms and now we use those like crazy to cheer on our team. Its almost just as exciting as screaming but saves the voice.
