Housekeeping Monday 5.4.09

With The season seemly rushing to an end here in California, while we wait for the rest of the country to get up to speed USATF Region 15 had another good meet this weekend.

**5.2-3.09 The Long Beach Sprinters Invitatiional**

The Long Beach Sprinter’s hosted this weeks meet with very few glitches and a  nice staff to help out athletes perform at their best. Saturday,The Quiet Fire team of Sub Bantams and 2 Bantams Lauren and Shante ran.  Sub-bantams the 100m and the Bantams 400m.

Lauren ran her best time to date of 1:02.43 .The crowd was really supportive and she said after the race she felt confident. With a good PR Henry and I couldn’t resist taking Lauren and Shante out for a special dinner and a little laser tag fun .  We returned on Sunday to runas a team with may great stand out performances by QF and the other teams as well. We were finished at about 3 pm and our home is very close to the track so it wasan extra early finish for us.THAT WAS NICE. Gahr High School is the location of the LA Jets Invitational later on this month.it seats over 11,000,but don’t let that number fool you. Parking is at a minimum and bathrooms too. Plan accordingly. Next week is Mother’s day and we will be off the whole weekend. It will be a good rest for Lauren , Henry and me too!

I realize it is a bit early to start making pl,ans for the National Meets around the country but it will be here before you know it so here are a few Fast tips to help you get organized for your families

** ”CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR 2009″**

Where will you go?

So ask yourself the following questions

Will my child qualify?

If so will the team travel to a National meet?

Do they go to certain meets only?

Do they have rules about  athletes attending certain meets without the team?

Does the team pay for a portion of the expense to travel to a National meet?

Where would be the best fit for my family to attend?

Which is closer to my home?

Have you considered the financial cost of a week of hotel, food  and transportation (plane or car)?

It is never to early to consider just how much time ,money and energy traveling  to a meet will cost. Better to know early than to wait and be unable to accommodate your needs.

**A brief comment on injuries and your youth athlete**

Has your athlete been complaining od a nagging little pain here or there lately or for some time? Please identify the source of the child’s pain and take steps to remedy the problem as quickly as possible.

Sometimes times kids can make more  out of a situation than is actually happening, but you have to be able to gage your child’s response and complaint accurately. It cost money and time and emotion confusion when the child isn’t honest in his appraisal of his own pain and discomfort. I don’t believe most patients lie about a pain or problem .but I do believe a child can blow out of proportion a condition for many reasons. More on this later. For now don’t let injuries lag on take care of them so your child can be top shape for the best season he or she can have…No excuses.
