A GREAT Weekend Of T&F 4.18-19.09

Bantam Girl 4×100 Gold Medal Mt.Sac Relays

Another weekend of great track and field. This weekend was a little different than most. We went to the Mt.Sac Relays On Saturday and the Rising Stars Invitational on Sunday.

Mt.Sac  invited  youth teams from the South Land to participate in a few races slotted especially for the age group youth. The bantams girls were invited to run the relay. They really didn’t know what to expect ,but when they  got to the track and saw all the people in the stands and heard Allyson Felix ,Carmelita Jetters and many more were running too they were more than excited. For good reason this meet is 51 years old and it is just getting better year after year.

Puma was a major sponsor and they didn’t disappoint .The kids had plenty of music , gear for sale and computer interactive games, give aways and lots and lots of dancing in the blow-up red room.Usain Bolt shirts were everywhere and  am sure they just about sold out.

The girls ran about 3pm and  I was in for a big surprise. The girls line up once again changes as Coach Henry refines and utilizes the talent he has to the fullest. It worked very well. With a good leadoff Maylea, 2nd Shante our resident “Fast Jamiacan”  Journey at a new leg of third keeping us in contention and Lauren for the first time anchoring and opening up the lead and leaving no doubt Saturday who earned the gold medal.

See the video here

The medals were very heavy and very pretty. The girls were so happy to have earned the medal and they had an extra boost when they learned that the time was one of the fastest so far this season at 56.06.

There were so many exciting races all day long it was truly a great day for the track fan. Again just like last weekend at the Arcadia meet there were so many great races it is hard to choose my favoritie. When you get a chance go to the site and check out as many of the races as your heart delights.

if I just had to pick my favorites they would be no   particular order:

Bantam Girls  4×100 Relay

Kori Carter current #1 under 18 time in the world 300m hurdles

Girls 400m Invitational

Men’s 400m hurdles open

We were there on Sunday and it was crazy windy most  the day but never in favor of the athlete. Most of the day they ran into a moderate to strong head wind, I felt sorry for the longer distances. Coach Brown was doing what he always does keeps smiling and positive. The temperature was a warm 80 degree at 8am but it was so windy it had to be 10 degree cooler and as the temperature raised it seemed the wind did to so we ended up with a almost 100 degree day but it really didn’t feel unbearable due to the miserable winds.

All and all a nice meet lots a smiling faces and except for the 200 times  for some divisions not being post when we left a good job. Lauren’s report was that she had a lot of fun glad she ran the  4x 400 relay after all but she doesn’t like the way the track feels under her feet?? Hum? Not sure what that means but that’s her 2 cents : -)
