It’s A Starter Fire….Quiet Fire’s All-Comers Meet 3.08.09

March 9, 2009

My New Friend Lambert and His Dad

*TRACK DATE March 08.2009*

It’s a wrap one  hosted meet down ,one more to go for Quiet Fire. Yesterday was our team ’s first meet of the season. An All comer’s meet held at the  Paramount High School state-of-the-art all-weather, polyurethane, 9 lane, 400 meter track. Sporting  2 shot put rings, 4 long/triple jump pits, 2 pole vault pits, 2 high jump pits, and a discus ring. The events were viewed from the inside the  beautiful new 6,000 seat stadium. It was a cool mild day temperature about 65 degrees as a high all day. Gotta love SoCal Track

Over all I think it went well, as well as could be expected. With over 4,000 , Yes you heard it right 4,000 people (3/4 the amount at JO’s last season) in attendance. It made for a busy day of Track & Field. A fun  day for the kids, a long day for the parents in  attendance and an even longer day for the parents of Quiet Fire. As for me it was a lot of fun and work.

I worked the registration desk. Me and my volunteer buddy Bridgette were the first two faces most of you saw that day. I like working the registration for the exact reason most don’t people.I really enjoy meeting all the parents  and coaches, trying to help them have a calm and sucessful day at the meet. People  are sometimes rushing in late or a new parent  says”I am new what do I do?”  I try to  help as much as possible. I heard the above statement several times yesterday and that’s how I met my friend Lambert.

Lambert’s dad said he was new and this was their first time at a meet. I sold him a sticker ( still a bargain at 1.50/event 6.00.relay) so his son could compete and began to explain the how to compete in the meet what to listen for etc. All the while Lambert was smiling and looking so excited. He told me he was going to run the 200m. I sent them with sticker in hand off to compete in his first of what just may be many more races for him. Later he came back and told me he had a good time and he took 3rd in his heat.WAY to GO LAMBERT!!!

Lambert wasn’t the only newbie out there yesterday. I met many new anxious parents and kids ready to take on a fun new experience.

These two happy faces came back to show me their ribbons of participation in the 200m

Highs and Lows of the Meet

The Spike Fiasco(Low)

Okay,we were at a brand new track at Paramount High School and they have a spike requirement. Many athletes didn’t have the right spike length and so QF began to sell the correct spikes 2.00/12 spikes.

After about 45 minutes parents began bringing them back for refunds because they were defective. OMGOSH  this was crazy. The spikes QF had purcashed were no good. Long story short. After refunding t of the money, most parents and coaches were happy with the outcome. A vendor from an athletic equipment company sold the correct spikes until they sold out. Some how the rest of the folks got by.   Ouch… this was a frustrating moment for all.

The Sports Medicine Tent(High)

There were lots of happy faces after leaving the the Sports Medicine/First Aid Tent. Thanks to the Southern California University of Health Sciences  Chiropractic Interns and Chiropractic Doctor for helping out at the unbeliveable price of 5.00 for a brief examination, kinesio taping  if needed ice and a little expert advice. Lots of parents and youth athletes visted the tent  and I think In April the  Sports/First Aid  Tent is going to be really popular.

Lost of personal articles (High and Low)

To my knowledge there were 3 items that were reported lost yesterday. Two wallets and a cell phone. The high in this  was that a wallet and a phone were turned in right away and those fortunate people had a good rest of the day. The low was the one gentleman that came back several times during the day only to find no one had turned his wallet in. Shame on the person who found this man’s wallet and didn’t return it immediately. His  fun day with his kids was really cut short early when he discovered the loss.

A reminder for all please remember that even though we see each other almost weekly  March through May, some people just aren’t your friends, just not as honest as you and you would be wise to pair down at the meets and keep personal items and money very close to you and if you need to leave it in the stands place some one in charge of watching your valuables.

Last Event Run(Low)

Not that it could be controlled ,but it was almost dark when the race of the day was complete. That was about 7pm. A long day for a Sunday, but all of our children contributed to the many heats that were run during the course of the day, so all and all it was a good meet and run pretty effecient over all(High)

 Concession Stands(High and Low)

The ladies at the table were smiling and happy to serve ,they just ran out of the main foods a couple times during the course of the day 8am-7pm. They promptly ran to the store to get supplies(two times ) but all and all they were able to meet the needs of the people in attendance who needed a quick snack.

Thanks Coach Chris Barbosa  and her trusty side kick assistant for sharing her new stadium with all of us in USATF Region 15 Youth Track, the great Chiropractic Doctors of SCHU, all the wonderful  parent volunteers of the Quite FIre Track Club aa well as the parents of the many kids on over 35 plus teams in greater Southern California and San Diego  who took time out on a Sunday afternoon to let there kids have some fun on the track.

Thanks to all the parents that stopped by the table  or just stopped me on my way to somewhere just to say HI! Scott Holman of Irvine,Kevin Johnson of Chastworth and My new friends Dad Lambert’s dad Lambert Adouki of Long Beach .

If you live in SoCal and are on a team  there is a very likely chance you will see me ,Henry and the reason I write TrackMom.com Lauren My little “Blaze” Williams next week at the Chino Hills Meet.

I took Lauren to school a little later this morning, she was all smiles

Ciao

Yes oh yes we had a great time at the QF meet yesterday but man oh man am I tired! Ugh, we did not make it home (San Diego area) until after 10PM. Long day. But oh SO worth it :-)

We might skip next year. Some of the meet directors should stick some of that kinesio (ducktape) on their forehead to remember to get things moving along. We don’t need to burn the kids out from waiting around to run. Otherwise, it was a great meet.

Considering this was one of the earlier meets of the season we were pretty impressed with how the meet was run–much smoother than the indoor meet in Arizona!

    Great job Quiet Fire!

Got something to say?
