The city has been chosen and the logo too! Singapore will be the inagural host of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games. The date of the competition is August 14th-26 2010
You may remember almost a year ago TrackMom.com telling you about the final two bids for the 2010 Youth Olympics . Singapore has won and they just unveiled their logo (seen above) I think this is going to be a wonderful addition to the youth track and field landscape.
The official web site states:
”The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) will be a new highlight on the world’s sporting
calendar.
A pioneering initiative by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the YOG will
be an Olympic Games for 14-18 year olds.
Featuring 26 sports, including some innovative ones such as beach wrestling and BMX biking, the YOG will showcase the best the world’s youth has to offer.
The successful host city can expect to welcome up to 3,200 athletes and 800 officials
during the maximum 12-day Summer Games period.
But the Games will be about much more than sport. There will be a whole range of
educational and cultural activities.
The first YOG, to be held in 2010, will be the dawn of a new era – an era
that Singapore hopes help usher in”.
”The first ever Summer Youth Olympic Games will bring together approximately 3,200 athletes and 800 officials in 2010. The sports programme will encompass all 26 sports on the programme of the 2012 Summer Games, with a limited number of disciplines and events. The first Winter Olympic Youth Games will bring together around 1,000 athletes and 500 officials. The athletes will compete – for the first time in 2012 – in all seven Olympic Winter Sports. The YOG follow the traditional cycle of four years, with Summer Games in 2010, 2014, 2018, etc and Winter Games in 2012, 2016, 2020, etc”.
