Write The Vision And Make It Plain
December 3, 2008
My friend Char over at Sportsgirlsplay wrote a great article on journal writing for youth athletes the other day. I just loved it. I think it is so important for our youth athletes to write there thoughts, dreams and vision down for a reminder to themselves .Planting into their subconcious what it is they really want out of life. This helps them provide a clear picture where they are right now in their thoughts and actions.
What’s A Journal Anyway??
“A journal may include daily life descriptions, but it also contains reflections on what took place and expresses emotions and understandings about them.
Every year during Association, Regionals and , I pull Lauren’s Track Journal out and she chronicles her meets, each day through the finish of the event. I love seeing her grow and develop not just grammatically but emotionally. It helps me see where she is with the transition of age and competition and she is enjoying looking back on her own words and thoughts yearly. Journals are a great tool to improve your athletes overall writing skills too! Keeping a journal helps you to become a good observer.
Here are some TrackMom tips for writing a journal
- The act of writing it down might encourage them to notice more than they otherwise would. Later they can add in pictures and other souvenirs of the experience.
- Start one along with your child it can be an act of discovery for both of you
- Get started with an on line help program if you need a little inspiration Conversations Within by Gerry Starnes offers a free online workshop
- Decorate a Journal Cover. First start with selecting your journal; it could be a spiral-bound notebook, a blank book available at book and stationary stores, or you could make your own journal using plain white filler pages bound together (fasteners, yarn, staples) with construction paper covers. Then decorate your cover by drawing pictures, using a graphics software program on the computer, or cutting and pasting pictures from old magazines to make your own unique journal cover.
- Use Char’s great FREE printable Training journal template that you can download and print as needed. Check it out!
