Medals Are A Smith Family Affair

 Kyla Smith, Ricky Smith, are familar with the podium experience.

Kyla was the North Carolina State Champion in 2007 — 200, 400, and 800;
and the North Carolina State Champion, as well as, the NC/AL/TN Regional
Champion for 2008 in the 400, 800, and 1500.  a Sub-Bantam Girl at this year’s AAU Nationals,
she went to the podium stand 3 times to stand on the 5th place position to receive her hard earned medals.

In addition she, like many other athletes traveled first to USATF and  finished 5th in the 1500 at
the USATF Outdoor Championship.  This is an amazing feat for a lower USATF Batam. Kyla holds several North Carolina meet records in the 400 and 800 and was ranked North Carolina’s best primary
girl for 2007.

years in shot put.  He was the 2008 USATF Outdoor Champion for Bantam
Boys Shot Put.  He finished  a strong 4th overall at AAU Nationals, with a bum
knee.  A true champion indeed!  Ricky also holds several North Carolina
meet records in shot put. Behind this family power house of talent is a loving and steady leader in  Coach Dad Ricky Smith. He works very hard, and is a constant cheering squad for the Smith athletes although not pictured, mom is behind  the scences  and is an every constant support for coach/dad and athlete/kids.

 Both Kyla and Ricky are consistently on the A/B Honor roll and look forward to theiracademic achievement continuing to flourish as much as their athletic achievments.

    This is a great article. I have had the pleasure of watching these kids train and it is amazing. The workouts that their dad comes up with is on a higher level than any youth track club or even high school that I have ever seen; and they never complain. Way to go Kyla and Ricky! Keep up the good work Smith Family.
