Happy Father’s Day Track Dad’s

My own father Conrad Johnson was a great track dad.  When I first told him at 12 years old , I wanted to run  for the Sun Valley Falcons he said great, when does practice start ? For 3 years he faithfully came and cheered me on, took me to Regionals, Nationals and always made be feel good about my accomplishments.

When I went to High School he would  take off from work early and sit on the opposite side of the field from my team at Kennedy High School ,Granada Hills,CA. watch and cheer me on.

Now he is an even better Track,Tennis, Soccer,Basketball and Volleyball Grand Dad.He’s spread a little thin on the weekends but his grandchildren (all 8 of them) know he is always there for them.He is one of their biggest fans and cheerleaders. My greatest desire ,is for him to see all 8 graduate from college and reach their full potential in their God give talents of sports, the arts and music .

It wasn’t easy for him (and my mom) to raise and nurture 4 girls, but he did a wonderful job and he contiunues to be the Ultimate Dad.Always there for us (just this week he was over fixing a clogged sink with Henry  late into the evening)  Happy Father’s Day Dad,We Love you all your girls. Lorraine Regina,Lisa and Ramona, and all your grand children , Jordan,Miah,Myles,Lauren Ashley,Kennedy, Alexia and Sterling and your Son-In Laws , Henry,Darrell,Pete and AL.  Happy Father’s Day Dad !!

The History of Father’s Day

Father’s Day, contrary to popular misconception, was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards. In fact when a “father’s day” was first proposed there were no Father’s Day cards! Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a “father’s day” in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. William Smart, a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd’s mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. The first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington.

At about the same time in various towns and cities across American other people were beginning to celebrate a “father’s day.”. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father’s Day. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father’s Day.  Father’s Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on Father’s Day.
