An Invitational You Won’t Want To Miss
June 12, 2008
It’s that time of the year when all Championship bound athletes are looking for a quick tune-up before National JO’s USATF and AAU . If it is in your vacation plans to head east or you live in or around the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. I hope West and East Coast Parents consider bringing your athletes to the 3rd Annual United Age Group Track Coaches Association Invitational, As you will see, The UAGTCA Youth Invitational is fast becoming a local and international favorite based on venue, family fun and great national and international competition . We rarely get to experience such a variety of athletes from places like Jamaica, and Canada to name a few. Over 65 teams registered so far. TrackMom will be there and I look forward to meeting all of the extended east coast track family. PLAN NOW AND BE PART OF A GROWING TRACK AND FIELD LEGACY . For more information please refer to the web site
The United Age Group Track Coaches Association, Inc. (UAGTCA) was conceived in the autumn of 1976 after a meeting of area track club representatives held at the Cliveden House, an auxiliary building of the Mallery Recreation Center in Philadelphia, PA. The outgrowthof that meeting was the formation of a relatively small organization, with an ambitious agenda and a goal, “To provide a quality, organized track and field program for the youth of the area“. The group held its first meet in the Spring of 1977 and for over 30 years this has remained the primary focus of the UAGTCA. The group was formally incorporated as a Pennsylvania not for profit organization in October, 1981 and received favorable determination of its exempt status as a 501 (C) (3) organization effective February of that same year.
They inaugurated their first Youth Invitational track meet in 2006. The meet was modeled after the ‘East Coast Invitational’ a highly successful youth track meet that had become a national model for youth summer track and field meets. The UAGTCA Youth Invitational is a similar three day celebration that affords many athletes an opportunity to compete with other high caliber athletes at the peak of their season’s conditioning. Many athletes use it as a springboard to National Competition.
The 3rd edition of the UAGTCA Youth Invitational will feature a few changes that we feel will enhance the meet even more. These changes were made because of suggestions put forth by the participants of the previous meets. Help us keep making the UAGTCA Invitational the place to be by submitting your suggestions for improvement.
-
The medals have been expanded to include 1st to 8th place finishers in all events. If an athlete participates in the finals of an event we want to make sure that they have something to remember it by.
-
They added the Race Walk to the event list. The 1500 Meter Walk for the Bantam & Midget Division as well as the 3000 Meter Walkfor the Youth, Intermediate & Young Men & Women’s Division. The event will be held Sunday morning to enhance its coverage.
-
Links to a real-time list of athletes entered in each event is provided on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday Order pages. This is ONLY a real-time event entry list and does not reflect event seeding or the final number or complete list of competitors.

Stadium refurbishing is complete. New stands are now available on both sides of the track and a new fully functional concession stand is in service. We’ve expanded our vending area and a large selection of track & field paraphernalia will be available for purchase.
While the United Age Group Track Coaches Association Youth Invitational is by no means the Granddaddy of Youth Invitational meets, it is quickly rising in the ranks. The three year old summer Invitational is gaining recognition as a well organized, talent laden event that has produced some of the best prep times and marks annually recorded. The meet which, in the past, has drawn primarily from the sprint rich northeast corridor is branching out. There are already Planned Participants from as far away as Canada, Jamaica and Bermuda. They’re not coming that far only for the ‘Cheese Steaks’. The meet is gaining a well deserved reputation for being logistically sound and very youth friendly.
Philadelphia has long been an excellent tourist friendly city; especially around the 4th of July holiday. Runners now have an additional reason to come to the City of Brotherly Lovein July. Philadelphia is a well respected Mecca for track & field. We’ve produced more than our share of Olympians and other track & field greats. When you compete in Philly you’re likely to face some of the best athletes in the nation. You come for the competition and stay for the fun. The UAGTCA Invitational offers a unique opportunity for runners to feed their passion for the sport as well as satisfy their desire for an exciting and fun filled vacation. Athletes and their families will have many opportunities to visit the host of historical and other attractions this fabulous city has to offer because the meet offers a reliable schedule that has run traditionally on time and on many occasions slightly ahead of schedule (never more than 1 hour).
We are proud to have received the support of the Comcast Corporation, Youth Runner Magazine and Dick’s Sporting Goods. The UAGI Games Committee has worked hard for their support and we want to demonstrate that we are worthy of their continued involvement.
The UAGTCA Invitational has grown in size and stature each year since its inception and we are proud of the fact that we continue to receive high praise for the conduct of the event. By popular demand we have added the Race Walk to our list of contested events. We believe that it is one of the final links to making this one of the most complete summer Invitationals.
We want everyone to get on board and help us continue to make this meet one of the best competition decisions of your summer. A Youth Meet conducted by Youth people who know Youth athletes.
We will, in short, do everything that we can to make your experience at the UAGI enjoyable, memorable and truly worthwhile.

Admission and Parking
Admission to the stadium is free of charge throughout the competition. There are several parking areas surrounding the complex and parking in those lots is also free of charge. There is one parking area, however, that is reserved for competition officials and meet personnel. You are not permitted in that area without proper credentials. Violators will be fined and towed. Access to the Check-in area is adjacent to the main entrance. Only athletes and coaches are allowed to access this area. Signs are posted throughout the complex.
Press Credentials
Anyone requiring PRESS CREDENTIALS please contact Leslie Stokes, Media Coordinator for Press & Photographer credentials no one is permitted in the competition area without appropriate credentials. Contact Leslie at the meet via the Registration Table.

Only active competing athletes are permitted in the competition area. Warm-ups are allowed 1/2 hour before the event is scheduled to begin. A final time schedule will be posted on this web site when all entries are received.
Shot Put Competition
Spectators are welcome to observe the shot put competition. There is limited standing room around the Venue but the event can be observed from the North stands adjacent to the Shot Put area. To gain access to the Shot Put Area you must follow the perimeter path around the stadium. Do not cut across the track.
Javelin and Discus Competition
The Discus & Javelin, except for the Turbo-Javelin which is conducted on the infield, are held on the soccer fields adjacent to the stadium. The area is opened to spectators but there are no stands available during the competition. Please use extreme caution when going to and from the area. The Javelin has a grass runway and the Discus Pad is brushed concrete. Appropriate footwear should be considered.
Pole Vault Competition
There is no coach’s box provided. Only competitors are allowed in the pole vault area. (There is a small area for viewing outside the fence surrounding the pole vault runways.)
Warm-ups

Athletes should be aware of the discus and javelin competitions that may be in progress on the soccer fields that are adjacent to the designated warm-up area. Please take care travelling to and from these areas during the Discus & Javelin competitions.
Clerking Tent
The Clerking tent is located behind the mezzanine level entrance across from the registration area. Every attempt will be made to make announcements for upcoming events via the public address system . However, actual event clerk-in calls are made at the clerking tent and it is the sole responsibilityof the athlete to monitor the events on the track and the calls being made at the clerking tent. Please report on the first call whenever possible. The area directly in front of the Clerking tent is adequate for warm-up exercises and hurdle preparation. All field events are checked in at their venue.
Medical Tent
The main medical tent is located adjacent to the clerking tent. Additionally, there will be a small tent near the finish line. These tents are manned by certified athletic trainers from Temple University and are designed to address basic competition injuries and render first aid in case of emergency. There are several Hospital emergency centers within minutes of the complex in the event of more serious injury. Free Bottled water will be available to all active athletes throughout the competition. A uniform and a meet issued Competition number will be required.

Hi Lorraine,
It was truly a pleasure meeting you and Lauren today. The Girls Bantam 400 was truly thrilling! I think it was the most exciting race of the meet. Perhaps I am a bit biased.
Anyway, just want to reach out to you immediately and we can start communicating.
Best of luck in Detroit and we will let you know what happens in Omaha.
Be well,
Terry (Victoria’s Mom)
