Yes, it’s true Lauren Rain Williams was named the fastest 8-9 year old in Los Angeles yesterday . The meet show cased some of the best talent in the world and Lauren got to meet all of them up close and personal.
The adidas Track Classic featured the top youth runners from the L.A. area, which in the past has produced the likes of Allyson Felix. 2008 adidas Track Classic
ESPN televised the meet and many of you have e-mail saying you saw Lauren’s interview and video clip. Thanks for the cheers for Lauren Rain.
2004 Gold medalist Jeremy Wariner and the girls
Lauren Rain Williams won the 8-9 year old fastest kid in LA competition in 80 meters (don’t ask,I not sure why 80m) @11.27, over Cheyanne Brady who placed second in 11.59, and Amanda VanBuren was third in 11.60.
I was able to get an exclusive with the Fastest Girl In L.A. and here in her own words is a re-cap of the days events.
TrackMom: So Lauren how does it feel to have run and won the title of KJLH’s Fastest Girl In L.A. title?
Lauren Rain: It was so exciting,I could hardly believe I was on the same track as Lauryn Wiiliams and Allyson Felix. My dad showed me a picture of her(Allyson Felix) in the Sunday newspaper.
TrackMom: Can you tell us a little about what you did to prepare for this meet?
Lauren Rain: Mom…You know what I did, I practiced like regular with dad,and I believed I could win. I wanted to meet Allyson and Lauryn and Sonja. My friends Amira and Amanda VanBuren were there competing too, so I felt better.Amanda is fast too and very nice and fun to talk to.
TrackMom: What were you thinking as you were running the race.
Lauren Rain : I was thinking I, gotta win…Go Lauren Go. I saw a big tape at the line finish line and I hit it first. It was very cool.I never ran through a big tape before. My start was not to good because the starter went to fast I think.
TrackMom: What happened right after you won the race?
Lauren Rain: A nice man introduced me to the audience (Ato Boldon), I was a little embarassed, but then I thought this is fun.He told me it was on ESPN and I was going to be on TV. About 5 minutes later I got to take pictures with Lauryn Williams and Allyson Felix and Veronica Campbell. Mom,did you know they are the fastest in the world??
TrackMom: Yes Lauren,I did know that. What was your favorite moment of the day?
Lauren Rain: When Lauryn Williams signed my numbers that were on my numbers bib and hugged me ,then said “All Williams are fast” She spent a lot of time with me that was the best…She was really, really nice. Allyson Felix told me good job on the field and hugged me.
TrackMom: Who else did you get an autograph from ?
Lauren Rain: Sonya Richards, Jeremy Wariner,Tyson Gay,Wallace Spearmon,Bernard Lagat,Bianca Knight, and some more I can’t remember right now.
TrackMom: So Lauren, where can we see you run in the next few weeks? What are your goals for the remaining season?
Lauren Rain: Mom….You know where(hahaha) L.A. Jets meet this coming weekend. Then Regionals,Association to qualify for the JO’s The Pacific Southwest Championships (AAU) The California State meet then Junior Olympics.
My goal is to compete in the 100,200 and Long Jump.I think I can medal in all events.I am going to work very hard so I can maybe get a gold like last year.
TrackMom: Lauren, Thanks for the exclusive : ) and can’t wait to see you run at the L.A. Jets Invitational.
Lauren Rain: Anytime for you Mom

Trackmom Wrap -up
The track meet was a great experience for our entire family.Grandpa Johnson “Popy” came out to support his grand-daughter,and daughter. Thanks to the Vanburen family of Chula Vista,California for great company over the few hours we waited to see our girls run. My favorite Elite Track Blog site editor Jay Hicks at PreraceJitters.com for always chatting me up on everthing track and field and providing me great, current information regarding the the elite track circuit .
When Lauren Rain was asked who is your favorite track athlete she promptly answered Lauryn Williams. Lauryn Williams was a joy to talk to and so friendly. I had to know more about this athlete. From talking to to more than a few people at the meet the consensus was that almost all of the elite athletes were very pleasant and nice to the spectators stopping for autographs and pictures. One official said to me that he was so impressed with Lauryn’s kindness and commitment toward children of track and field and that she had been so generous to kids in Florida, she had become his favorite sprinter as a true ambassador of Track and Field.
That was enough for me.Helping our youth athletes and spending time, she’s in with me.To find out more about this talented young woman go to http://www.laurynwilliams.net for more information and consider sporting this great Tee below.. You gotta love the slogan 11 sub. As for my Lauren Rain the sub will be changing for a few years to come. Sub 13 is her goal.

We will plan on seeing you guys in Detroit… God Willing.
My Little Man, Jahlil, just took the Gold in the 100 M for the state of TN AAU District Championships. And for the time being, has earned the title of the Fastest 7-8 yr. old in TN. Regionals are in 2 weeks, then the Georgia Games, then the Jr. Olympics. With God’s grace he will stay healthy and reach his peak performance on August 2nd.

Hi Lorraine and Mr W. I am a parent and coach of an 8yr old boy. Probably not as quick as Lauren. My son Carl thinks she is a bomb. We live in New Zealand not so good at sprints as we are at middle distance.
Just interested in your events in USA. We are not allowed to let kids do 400m and over until 10yrs of age and also cant wear spikes till then also. What is it over there. Do u guys ive in L.A whats it like.? N.Z is great but colder. Carl got 33s for 200m last year at 7 hope to get 30s this year at 8yrs and hopefully sub 15 for 100m. Do you think its possible? Whats Lauren’s pb at 8yrs for 100 and 200m.
Well signing off and Carl says hi to Lauren from N.Z and keep winning.
