Inspiration Friday…Aaliyah Brown..Love,Passion and Desire
April 11, 2008
It is my pleasure to introduce you to this weeks athlete of the week
Aaliyah Brown of the IIlnois Elite Track Team .
To the average on looker Aaliyah might appers to be a typical teenage girl. But when you talk to her ,and those who know her find an extrordinary young woman with sights already set high for Olympic Gold one day and a desire that transcends obstacles and difficulties that would limit most people, youth or adult.
This is the brief but powerful story of a true winner on the track and in her community and her life and the life of those she comes in contact with. Born 1.06.95 (13yrs old) Aaliyah began her youth track domination very early, age 6. By age 7 she began winning national titles.
She is coached by her father, Angelo R. Brown Sr.Her father says she has always had something very special. Many elite athletes parents express this “something” noticed very early .He says that she has a keen focus and is driven with great ambition, she has been a joy to mentor as a father and coach” .
Sadly, on March 3rd, Aaliyah lost her mother, Rhea T. Brown, to breast cancer after a long hard fight. Rhea, even while experiencing great difficulty would service water to athletes at the meets and cheer on the side lines louder than any one else. Many times Rhea would refer to Aaliyah as her savior at home. Her passing is a great loss to the track family of the Illinois Elite Track Club.

Aaliyah is dedicated , never losing sight of the task at hand both on and off the track. Her family is very important to her and she does all she can to support them in every way.She also has two younger siblings Asia R. Brown age 11 also of the IETC , and Angelo R. Brown Jr. age 4. (Both pictured above)
Some of Aaliyah’s accomplishments and associations include:
- 4.0 GPA, 7th grader at Illinois School, Park Forrest, IL
- Illinois Elite Track Club Team Captain
- 2007 Miss Matteson title
- 2007 Miss Supreme Illinois
- Chicago Level Bulls Hip Hop Dance crew
- Bull’s Kids Cheerleading Squad
- 5 time AAU National Gold Medalist and Title holder for the 100, 200 consecutively
- 2007 USATF Youth National 100, 200, and 400 Gold Medalist
- Ranked #1 in the country by the Elite Youth Ranking System in the 100, 200, and 400 for 2007
Although she no longer keeps track of her total medal acquisition she values the opportunity to compete and appreciates the medals she has earned in preparation for her ultimate goals, the Olympics which is just one on her crowded road of goals. Beyond the medals awaits a true champion on and off the track.
Her goal road includes, Olympian, Anesthesiologist, Breast Cancer advocate. (It is her ambition to help find the cure and be an active part in raising awareness).
Aaliyah we salute the Champion you inspire in all of us….

This story makes me cry. I am so inspired by this young lady, I hop others will be as well.
Hey Lorraine,
On Behalf of myself and our family at LSI I just wanted to say “Thank You and Monique” for sharing such a wonderful and inspring story. Although we may not know Aaliyah and her Family personally, However geographically dispersed we are all contected in one pattern of devotion. So its with Love and Friendship and what little there is to choose between the two .. that Aaliyah is in our prayers.
Champions….
Choose Peace over Conflict
and Love over Fear
But choose nothing over God
and so they always persevere
They never over boil with jealousy
be envious or hate
But know the purpose of their struggles
are in services to increase their “Faith”
