The Other “Allison” Stokkes Of Track & Field
February 14, 2008
Allison Stokke is not happy about the fact that she is more famous for her looks than her athleticism. Who can blame her? Some might find that amusing since it sure doesn’t hurt to have it all. She is likely to get major endorsements based upon having the total package. Nike is rumored to be very interested.
I and many others wonder what will this year bring competitvely .
Good Luck Allison!
Recap on her accomplishments thus far.
Allison Stokke (b. 1989) is an American pole vaulter from Orange County, California. In 2004, she won a California state championship at age 15, and broke several national records in her age division.
Her 2005 season was hampered by an injury, as she broke her right tibia in May.[1] As a senior at Newport Harbor High School, her personal best was 13′ 7″ (4.14 m), the second-best mark in the nation for a female senior in that calendar year.[2] In May 2007, she won the CIF-Southern Section Masters meet.[3] In June, she advanced to the CIF State Championship finals by clearing 12′ 3″ (3.73 m),[4] and eventually finished fourth in the competition that was won by Tori Anthony.[5] Stokke said that her legs had been hurting for a while, which interfered with her sprinting down the runway.[6]
Stokke grew up as a gymnast, and attempted pole vaulting her freshman year of high school, setting a school record only two months after her start. She would win the state championship three months later.[8] She set a national record for her age group in her sophomore year, at 12′ 8″. Ranked number two in the state of California,[9][10] she recovered from a broken tibia her sophomore year to set a personal record of 13′ 7″.[10] In total, Stokke has broken five California pole vaulting records, and is planning to attend the University of California on scholarship, after being recruited by Harvard University, Stanford University, and UCLA.[8]
Beginning in May 2007, she became the subject of an Internet phenomenon[8]. She made a 3-minute YouTube video, which has garnered a lot of popularity.[11] YouTube reports the video has been watched almost one million times.[12]

On behalf of the male gender I would like to offer an apology to Ms. Stokke for the excess attention she received from her picture. I have seen the photo and have to say that it does tend to make one do a double take. I think that is a natural reaction from any red blooded straight male. God blessed her with an extraordinary amount of beauty.
However, it is unfortunate that the circumstances led to such phenomenal Internet traffic to cause her apprehension and embarassement.
I wish her luck in her athletic and academic endeavors and hope that this experience doesn’t prevent her from enjoying life.

Bill Carter, my faith in the male species has just been restored. Thank you for that comment. Allison is a very talented young woman and though extremely beautiful, she should be more known for her hard work than just a sex symbol
Really? To me it seems Allison Stokke doesn’t realize how lucky she actually is. Everyone knows that in life, if you”re tall, good looking, have nice teeth, speak well and have a talent… you’ll more than likely get ahead in life.
She’s a product of parents with good incomes, placed in quality schooling, who happens to be very pretty and have a talent for vaulting.
I’m just saying, she’s got it good…. better than most even, and this attention she’s receiving will only make her money, and allow her to get closer to the dreams and goals in life.
Get over yourself already, people would kill for your good looks, talent and ability.
Men have oogled’ at women since the beginning of time, for us to stop now would be a failure of the species.
