It is so exciting to watch the true standouts of track and field and wonder what will come next ? Well, I have chosen a few of my personal favorite young athletes for 2012 (if not 2008 ) This short list will be posted with new favorites as the season progresses and by no means is it exhaustive it’s just a launching point.
One of my favorites In The “Tough as Nails” Girls category is Jordan Hasay
Jordan Hasay was unbeatable against high school competitors on the track in 2007. She won the 1,500 meters at the U.S. Track and Field Junior National Championships and finished second in the 1,500 meters in the World Junior Championships. 15 years old and just beginning to dominate.
Competing in a 19-and-under 1,500- meter race that included college freshmen, the then 15-year-old Hasay finished first in 4 minutes, 16.98 seconds-a time that blew away the previous meet record by more than two seconds and gave her a “B” qualifying mark for the 2008 Olympic Trials.
Hasay will get an invite to the Olympic Trials unless 30 or more women qualify with an “A” time in the event. But she’s also on record as saying she’ll try to qualify in the 5,000 meters as well.

- The “Beyond Boys” Category
- William Wynne12th grader from Powder Springs ,Georgia. A record holder in the 110 and 400meter hurdles with the times of 13.83 and 51,56 respectively. He is also the New Youth World-record Holder with a time of 49.01. This was accomplished at the YouthWorld Games this past summer. Named Youth athlete of the year in November of 2007 by the USATF Youth Athletics ,Wynne may just be the next great American Hurdler.
Elias Geydon 9th grader from Los Angles area . Elias has already helped his Loyola team to a state cross country titile and national ranking. Elias has the poise and determination not many athletes have at such a young age.Not only is he a true competitor he is a gracious champion. I have observed him with fellow athletes and he inspires them as well as the the crowd. He has been the Gold Standard of the 800m-1500m for the past few years. Now a freshmen in high school I expect that he will do amazing things on and off the track. I watched him Saturday at an all-comers meet and once again people in the crowd that are just getting to know him were “Wowed” saying things like “He runs like a man” ” He’s special”… I fully agree.
