What is Punshiment For Such A Crime?

Much has been said about the Marion Jones situation. My daughter  (8 years old) says things like,”MOM! Why did she cheat if she was so good to begin with? Who will take care of her baby? Where’s the dad at?(That another topic all together )

My response is generally the same.

1. She didn’t have to cheat She Wanted To.

2. There are always consequences for your actions .

3. You rarely get to pick your consequences , so make your choices in all you do wisely.

4. Hard work pays off.

5. Work hard if you want to be a great woman sprinter one day like Wilma Rudolf, Gail Devers and others.

What do you think? Let me know.

I have briefly weighed in on a previous post about Ms. Jones. Today I will let you hear what a well know Australian Track Athlete had to say today. Whay do you think?

Hear Australian track legend, Herb Elliot’s thoughts on the 6 month sentence given to Marion Jones.

It will send a strong message to sport drug cheats – a 6 month jail sentence given to disgraced US sprinter, Marion Jones for lying to authorities over drug use. But Australian track legend, Herb Elliot thinks she got off lightly.

Herb explained his view to Adam Spencer on Breakfast, “To me, the punishment needs to fit the crime, and for what she’s done I think she should get more than 6 months quite frankly. Tell me who came second in the 100 metres in Sydney or in any of the events that Marion Jones ran in. Because she won the events she would have received millions and millions of dollars in sponsorship and the person who came second would have got nothing. So I see that as thieving.”

Herb disputes the theory that drug cheating is rife at the moment. “The fact of the matter is that as soon as someone becomes a drug taker they stand up and normalise their cheating by saying ‘everybody else is doing it’. I quite frankly don’t believe that. It’s a very small percentage of sports people who take drugs. I know there are some sports where its endemic but as a general rule, most people are fair clean and don’t. And yet they have the shadow cast over them by the cheat who says everyone’s doing it.”

I  agree With Herb….
